Homestays requested for October 23-25

Board members of the Eliot Institute, a non-profit organization that organizes camps and retreats for Unitarian Universalists and their friends and families, are gathering at Vancouver Unitarians on October 24th for their autumn Board meeting. Most Eliot Board members live in Washington and Oregon and are looking for home stays with other UUs while they are here, from Friday October 23rd to Sunday October 25th. If you can offer a room in the Vancouver area (or further afield with the inclusion of a ride to and from VanU, as not all are coming with a vehicle), please contact the Eliot Institute secretary Drew Betz or UUSS member Carla Mandy.

On Friday Nov 13 at 7:00pm, Beacon is presenting an evenina with Shari Ulrich.  Proceeds to New West Hospice Society!

Tues, October 6, 6:00– 7:00 p.m. Canadian Pension Plan stakeholder meetings

Every two years, the Canadian Pension Plan is required to hold stakeholder meetings. The last time was 2024! CPPIB has a duty to invest in our best long-term interests. But CPPIB continues to invest billions in fossil fuel expansion while failing to disclose a credible plan to reduce emissions across its portfolio. It is also making major investment decisions that raise important questions about Indigenous rights and Canadians’ long-term financial security.

Join Robyn in Vancouver, BC on Tuesday, October 6, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection, 45 Smithe St, Vancouver, BC to demand our pensions invest responsibly in our future.  Let her know if you want to carpool to this event.

Election fever is on. We know it is overwhelming with so many candidates and two elections happening at once. To make it simple, we are focusing on where our kids spend the majority of their time - at school!

Join us October 6, 2026 at 7:30pm (virtual) where we will be asking Vancouver School Board Trustee candidates about climate and generative AI in schools. There will be an opportunity to submit audience questions. All parties and independents have been invited to participated. We have received confirmation from five parties.

Please register here:VSB Trustee Discussion - For Our Kids

October 1 is the launch of Vote4Tomorrow, a platform that 38 community members have worked hard on to highlight municipal mayor and councillor thoughts on climate issues.  See if your community is there and what your candidates support.

Attend CPPIB Public Meeting in Vancouver and put climate on the agenda

Next Tuesday, October 6, 6-7 PM, we have a unique opportunity here in Vancouver to demand accountability from our public pension. The CPP Investment Board is hosting a series of public meetings this fall, and it's our chance to be in the room and question the way the organization is investing our retirement savings in fossil fuel expansions that worsen the climate crisis and violate Indigenous rights. Sign the petition

At the DOUGLAS, Autograph Collection, 45 Smithe St, Vancouver BC - Register to attend here: and ask these questions

Can't attend? You can still make your voice heard by signing this petition calling for responsible management of our retirement savings.

We acknowledge that we live on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation), which lies within the shared territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Katzie, Musqueam, Qayqayt, Squamish, and Sto’:lo Nations. We thank the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm who continue to live on these lands and care for them, along with the waters and all that is above and below
